Reblog from Cliffather1up.com: Feb 16, 2008
In 1992, I wrote several letters to game companies. I sent a letter to SEGA that year about Phantasy Star 3(See my final PSU message post on the details--title: SEGA's Future).
All their attention encouraged me in writing to Capcom about improvements to their STREET FIGHTER II game in 1995.
My introduction to fighting games.
When my "middle" sibling and I were in our pre-teens, we use to go to the arcades to play video games. Our first video game was Centuri's PLEIADES. Because it was too hard for us alone, we played it as a team. My "middle" sibling controlled the left and right buttons while I controlled warp and fire buttons. The next game we played as a team was MOON PATROL. My sibling would control the speed and I would control the jump and fire buttons(he would use those buttons if needed). This game was at a local gas station/store.
As we started to grow, we could no longer play as a team. Zaxxon became one of my favorite games. When Street Fighter was released in 1991, I wouldn't play it.
I liked Double Dragon(it was still around), Final Fight, Golden Axe, Altered Beasts and other games like that those. My brother asked me several times to play him and our older cousin(who help purchased Phantasy star)in SF.
I tried, by myself, to play Ryu. I liked him because he wore white(one of my four favorite colors). But I couldn't perform any of his command moves, which made me stop playing.
My "middle" sibling used Chun-li and suggested I use her.
WHY DID HE DO THAT? He said she was easy to play. So I tried. Chun-li's lighting kick(Hyakuretsu Kyaku), my favorite attack, encouraged me to play her. Plus, she had little command moves. Chun-li had my favorite qualities for a female character: Thick legs, nylons, a nice "bosom", long hair, boots/high heels, "fan service shots" and a pretty face.
The BIGGEST shock was my WINNINGS. I won often(That's when I fell in "love" with her). It was getting me ready for 1992. Street Fighter Champion Edition. My sibling and I would fight OFTEN. He would choose Blue Chun-li and I chose my FAVORITE color: RED Chun-li. I started beating HIM at our local arcade called Diamond Jims.
I was going to tech school and when I did get out of the last class early, I would go to Diamond Jims and play other players. I lost and won many fights.
My "middle" sibling and I purchased SFII when it was FINALLY released in 1993 for the Genesis. We would fight for HOURS.
Because of my hours at Diamond Jims and my playing SF at it's HIGHEST levels, I became the best at MOST 2D/3D fighting games in our family/friends even to this day!
What I became upset about was Super Streetfighter Turbo in 1994. I didn't like the changes they did to Chun-li. I couldn't do her SUPER. I hated the "Tenshou Kyaku". Yes, I did fight Akuma and lost..the pads and the sticks at the arcade are different.(I did beat him on the consoles).
Two of my favorite attacks with Chun-li(Alpha series):
The Lightning Lore and the Knee-flip Cross-up.
The Lightning Lore works on new and intermediate level players. What I do is first charge down then press "MK" twice and then rapidly press "MK" or "HK". This starts up "Hyakuretsu Kyaku"(Lightning Kick). MOST players who have played StreetFighter will ATTEMPT to jump over this attack.
Unknown to them, it set up "Tensho Kyaku" or if I am fast enough I would perform "Hazan Tensho Kyaku".
The Knee-flip cross-up usually works on a downed character. It KILLS new players' characters because it becomes endless when they don't know where to block if you timed the hit. It works like a cross-up. First, do the Knee-flip(Kaku Kyaku Raku)on a down character then after the attack hits do "Tensho Kyaku" then repeat. I noticed these tactics aren't in any of the strategy guides..hmm..
In April 4, 1995, I wrote a letter to Capcom about STREET FIGHTER 3 among other ideas. The brief:
Street Fighter 3
-They should stop with the "Super edition" to the SF2 series.
-"First, do not allow any old characters from Streetfighter 2 to be in Streetfighter 3 except Ryu, Ken, Sagat? and MAYBE Chun-li"--4/4/95.
-Include the tap twice forward to run and tap back twice to make the characters jump back.
-"Cancel Combos"(I didn't know it was already in the game).
-An extra block button that allows for a martial arts block that "gives players a way to stop a lot of hits from the multi-blows"(combos).
-high grabs and low/leg-grabbing techniques.
-After I played the Streetfighter RPG, I suggested allowing players to create a Streetfighter(A Capcom Cartridge would be used for the home version which could be loaded into the arcade).
Capcom idea: A "What-if" game using the Streetfighter 2 characters were listed in that '95 letter. They would have the characters switch story and fighting style. ex. What if Chun-li learned Ryu's martial-Arts. Guile was trained as a Sumo...etc.
On April 20, 1997, I wrote Capcom again with these ideas:
-Streetfighter vs Darkstalkers game.
-Street Fighter "The Eternal Story" game which has ALL of the StreetFighter characters including SF3.
"This game is to celebrate StreetFighter 2's Tenth Anniversary".
-Streetfighter "The Quest of the Dragon" that features: Ryu(Dark), Dan, Ken, Akuma(Super), Sheng Long, Sean, Sakura, Sagat with hidden Characters(Morrigan and Demitri). It has only characters with a "Dragon Punch". Now, it would include characters from SF EX.
A better name for it would be the SF anime title Streetfighter Generations.
CAMCOM CATFIGHT: This game only features Capcom female characters fighters. A new female would be introduced Lee{last name}, who wishes to be like Chun-li. She would be JAPANESE! Her fighting style is like the Original Chun-li. This game would include Chun-li in a miniskirt or a Rose-like dress(ex costume).
-I made a request for Capcom to updated "Magnificent World of Chun-Li" book, which ended my 1997 letter.
My lastest idea'08: Rival Schools Revival
"Rival Schools: Revival" would be an updated game created for the X-box360 and PS3 game systems.
Why? To celebrate Rival Schools' "Ten year Anniversary".
It will include both Rival Schools(disk 1 and 2) plus Project Justice and the missing date-like game "School Life Mode". It's game graphics would be an improvement to the original(see Tomb Raider Anniversary).
As you know, I like the creation mode so I can create my characters: Wilma Sue,Nova S(Sue's rival), Brooke, Grace Ann(Brooke's sister),Chun Ju, Wendy W, Roxanne, Isidora, Nika, Nuru, Misa, Vicki, Theodora, William, Victor(William's rival), Bernard, Mark, Aiden, Kane, Vincent, Vlad, Arch, Peter, Kenji, Ryuichi, Derek, Akira, William M....and the rest of my 52 characters for book one(I have over 1000 characters).
Rival School Revival allows players to choose one of these four fighting types that ALL fighting games have:
Fast(ex. Chun-li, Vega, Cammy, Sakura, Hyo, Kyoko?)Strong(ex. Ryu, Batsu, Roy, Hideo), Tough(ex.Gan, Zangief, Hugo) and Uncanny(ex. Akira, Dhalsim, Gen, Necro, Twelve).
The difference between "RS Revival" and the old version:
1) The creation mode allows the player to choose: voice(s), face, skin tone, BODY SIZE Height, soul type: good or evil, hairstyles, battle scars, and tattoos. This is an advance creation mode like Soul Calibur 3, Phantasy Star Universe and RUMBLE ROSES XX(for female characters!).
2) The creation mode allows players to (un)EQUIP their "special moves"(list from ANY 2D fighting game), "Burning Vigor attacks" and "Team-up Technique". The Player can choose one of their "Burning Vigor Attacks" to be UNSTOPPABLE or increase the damage of their "Burning Vigor {grab} attack" which can be changed EVERY ROUND. Only an UNSTOPPABLE attack can neutralize an UNSTOPPABLE attack. NOTE: UNSTOPPABLE ATTACKS prerequisite: 3 Vigor bars but it deplete everything. The idea is similar to the Streetfighter RPG(the early nineties). This is after the player chooses his/her fighting style type(starting base).
3) Allows the player's CHARACTER to buy costumes other than school outfits(choosing undergarment* see DOA ULTIMATE). Other ex. The SIMS' "URBZ" outfits. This allows players to "COSPLAY" their character after FAMOUS video-game characters.
4) Tournament mode includes an ONLINE mode allowing players to fight/play(mini-games) against each other online including LOBBY areas for players to talk to each other(ex. Phantasy Star Universe..ie cafeteria, poolside{swimsuits}..etc) The player can decide to use Rival Schools' or Project Justice's "game engine".
Two players on a PS3/X-box360 can play against TWO players with another PS3/X-box360ONLINE. They can switch out using the Vigor Bar or use Team-up Techniques of the single-player mode. If the Team-up Techniques are used, the players must decide to be an AIDE or an ATTACKER. Lastly, the players must decide what team-up Technique they want to use(see Rival Schools, Project Justice, and DOA).
I like the extra characters of Rival Schools, the redheads Aki and Amy(reminds me of Wilma Sue). I hope to see this game made.
*No, I didn't fall for the "changing Sophitia's undergarment"(FALSE)code for the Dreamcast. ^_^!
Thanks for WAITING and reading till the end!
If you are under the age of 13, you have been asking a simple question. Why do I, a MALE, play with female characters.
Here's a long story.
The answer is I like STRONG females.
My siblings and I was raised by our my mother who died three years after her divorce. She tried to raise my siblings and I by herself. Which meant she had to become strong for her kids.
This made me appreciate strong women.
Not having a father figure around and uncles who didn't get involve with their nephews didn't help either. You should have a better understanding now.
As a child, the first female character who made a GREAT impression was Princess Leia of STAR WARS. Instead of being a Princess who cries, asking for help and wanting someone to save her. She kicks butt during her rescue.
Alis from Phantasy Star impressed me as well. It didn't matter to me that I was playing a female character.
You know the story about me & Chun-li..nuff said.
My siblings and I would just stay in the house and watch cartoons and play the early video games(Atari). This is also the reason why I don't have any SPORTS GAMES. I don't watch sports so I don't play those games.
Do I play males? YES..I do!!!!
If I died and reincarnation actually existed I would returned as a MALE!!! I would returned as another black male or asian/black male. IF I HAD to returned as a white male, I would be 6'2 medium size male with red hair and green eyes(Like my MAIN character named William).
I WOULDN'T returned as a female. Women go through too much and have alot of rules to follow. They DON'T get the glory they deserve.
I perfer to own OUTDOOR plumbing than indoor plumbing(High maintenance).
Why do I stressed my females Nei, Wilma Sue, Brooke, Wendy G and the other girls characters?
I am single and as I have often said, I like EYE CANDY!!
Psychologists would say I like to control women and see them only as sexual objects. Think about it. I can control these characters, make them wear clothes of my choice...etc...etc..
But that's READING TOO MUCH into my gaming choice. What about males who ONLY play males. hmm.....
In most fighting games, female characters are FAST and somewhat strong in damage. This is why I choose them.
For example, the only reason why I started playing Kasumi in DOA was because her outfit reminded me of Chun-li. I found Lei-Fang too slow and didn't have flashy attacks to draw me to her. Yes, I know she's Chinese and wears a Chinese dress(my favorite, reminds me of....).
Favorite characters in fighting games.
Streetfighter: Chun-li & Ryu. Capcom has NERF Chun-li so much it caused me to become a better Ryu player(I love his attack Shin Shoryuken)! The "middle" sibling doesn't play Chun-li anymore. His character is Cammy. He plays Rose(SFA) and later Sakura on SFA series. The youngest sibling plays Ken & Fei-long(Guy in Alpha).
Streetfighter3 'strike:Chun-li, Ryu, Sean(main in Streetfighter3 Double Impact). Ibuki is the "middle"'s favorite. Ken & Yun/Yang is the youngest favorites.
Fatal Fury: Joe. The first Fatal Fury introduced Joe who had a flashy fist attack(TNT Punch)that reminded me of... I liked Terry but couldn't choose him because my other sibling had chosen him. The youngest sibling loved Andy.
Fatal Fury 2: Joe and Terry(secondary). Terry is a STRONG character(like Ryu)and has afast attack(Burn Knuckle). He has three/Four of my favorite colors(RED/White/Blue). My sibling fell in love with Mai.
Real Bout Fatal Fury special Joe(at this point Joe became my favorite 2D male character). Terry(secondary). Mai & Blue Mary(secondary) is the "middle" sibling's favorite. Andy is the youngest sibling's favorite of course while Tung Fu Rue was a secondary .
King of Fighter'95-present: Joe, Athena(Ryu-like but faster),Yuri but because my sibling fell in love with her in '95, I went back to Terry. (King/Yuri/Mai is his favorites). I am disappointed in SNK for taking Joe out in the later KOF/Maximum series. Kyo,Benimaru, Andy/Clark became the youngest sibling's favorites.
KOF: Maximum Impact 1&2: ATHENA, Terry(secondary) Bonne(third in MI 2).
Mark of the Wolves: Terry, Marco"Butt" (second) & Bonne Jenet/Rock(third). Note: Bonne has a chinese-like dress. The middle sibling likes Hotaru & Rock.
SoulEdge/Soulcalibur 1-3: Sophitia(Cassandra-secondary, Lizard man(third)in Soulcalibur 1-2). I like Sophitia because she is strong and has the fast attack: "Angel strike" (the "stabbed" attack). I don't like any of the other males. I tried playing Cervantes but hated his appearance. My sibling like Taki and the youngest likes Xianghua. This is the only game(dreamcast version) except for Streetfighter, where my brother and I would practice everyday after we got off from work to better our skills(in facing each other).
Darkstalkers: I like Morrigan but fell in love with the tanned Felicia(She's kawaii plus I like cats). Morrigan & Lilith(often played secondary in Darkstalkers 3) became my sibling's favorite while Demitri & Hsien Ko(secondary) is the youngest sibling's favorites.
Capcom vs SNK 2: Chun-li(duh), Athena(duh), Joe(duh) main team. Chun-li, Athena, Yuri(the girls team) Joe, Ryu, Terry(the guys team). Mai, Yuri, Morrigan(fourth). Ken, Sakura, Rock(fifth). Ryo,??,??(sixth). The middle sibling plays: Mai, Sakura & Yuri. His dark secondary? team is Geese, Rock and Hibiki. The youngest plays: Kyo, Benimaru/Ken, Kyosuke(Yun-secondary).
NOTE: We use the EX grooves 1 & 2. Ex1-groove: C-gauge, dash, air guard, rolling, safe fall with chain combo is the "middle" sibling's groove. Ex2-groove: C-gauge, Run, Rolling, air guard, counter movement with air chain combo is my groove. My groove works well with my Chun-li's "Running HP *surprise* " at the beginning of the round(from SFIII). I miss Chun-li's glowingHP(standing) from SFII.
Capcom vs Marvel 2: Chun-li(duh) Cyclops(duh), Felicia(duh) main. X-men: Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine/Colossus. Speed team: Spiderman, Storm, Chun-li. Heavy metal team: Juggernaut, Sentinel, Colossus. Beam team: Ryu, Cyclops and Cable/Magneto(rarely). The "middle" sibling's team: Rogue, Sakura, Psylocke. DARK Secondary: Sakura, Akuma and Jill. The youngest plays what he calls the World Wide Web: Venom, Spiderman and Psylocke(she links them together--telepath).
SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos--Chun-li & Ryu (I wasn't too fond of this DARK game) I didn't play Athena too often because she was just TOO CHEESY. The middle sibling liked Shiki(He got a thing for dark female characters). Kyo is the youngest fave.
POCKET FIGHTER: Felicia (main), Chun-li(secondary) Ryu(third), The middle sibling likes Sakura and Ibuki. The youngest played Ken & Hsien Ko(secondary).
Rival Schools(Project Justice): Amy & Aki, Batsu & Hinata(story mode) Roy & Kyoko(story mode secondary). Project Justice: Burning Batsu, Hinata & Roy/Kyoko?. The middle sibling likes: Sakura & Hinata. The youngest plays Kyosuke & Akira.
Capcom Fighting Evolution: Chun-li & Felicia(duh)/Ryu(secondary), the "middle" sibling plays: Karin(!) & Ingrid(!)...huh?. This game NEEDS an UPGRADE!!
Samurai Shodown: Charlotte & Haohmaru(rare secondary), Nakoruru
was the "second" sibling's favorite. The youngest played Ukyo.
Battle Arena Toshinden2: Sofia. The "middle" sibling liked Ellis.
Golden Axe: The Duel-- Milan Flare, the "second" sibling liked Jamm, the youngest liked Keel.
Eternal Champions: Jetta Maxx, the "middle" sibling liked Shadow(of course), the youngest liked: Midknight, Xavier & Larcen!
*Waku Waku 7: Arina & Bonus Kun(secondary), the middle sibling likes Tesse & Fernandez.
*Astra Super stars: Stella & Maron(change often between the two), the middle sibling liked Rouge.
Fighting Vipers: Grace. After looking back at my favorite 3-D female characters, I notice a trend: Grace, Sophitia, Kasumi all have "face" grabs..hmm....I worry. The "middle" sibling likes Candy. The youngest played Bahn.
Virtual On: Viper/Cypher, Fei-yen Kn is the "middle" siblings' favorite. The youngest sibling likes Temjin.
Guilty Gear: Millia Rage & Sol Badguy(secondary). My "middle" sibling favorites are Jam Kuradoberi and Dizzy(secondary).
X-men: Next Dimension: Cyclops & Phoenix(duh), Storm. This game has the best Psylocke.
Arcana heart: Heart Aino. I like Mei-fang(reminds me of..)appearance but she not FAST enough. The "middle" sibling seems to like Maori Kasuga.
Dead or Alive: Kasumi(duh) and Jann Lee(my youngest sibling and I like his martial arts type). Jann Lee is strong and he has speed plus I like his "DRAGON PUNCH" in DOA4. The youngest sibling's favorite is Helena since her's skill is closer to his style. He also like Gen-fu. & Tina is a "third". The middle sibling likes Lei-fang and Ayane.
Rumble Roses(XX): Aigle(She reminds me of..u kno). Candy Cane is a secondary(note: Red hair and short skirt fetish).
(BONUS) Streets of Rage2 : Axel/Blaze(rarely), the middle sibling liked Blaze, the youngest liked Skate/Max(secondary). Streets of Rage 3: Axel, Blaze(middle sibling's fave) SHIVA/skate(secondary) was the youngest sibling's favorite.
* NO OFFICIAL US release at this time.
My pre-created characters in video games(www.flickr.com/photos/cliffather/).
In Elementary School, I created a character named Will Jr and his girlfriend. Finding non-biblical subjects boring, I would Daydream about their adventures during class(It reflected on my grades).
Once I got in Jr High, now called Middle School, I took up ART. I drew my first comic starring Will Jr and his girlfriend Wilona(Still daydreamed in class also except for Art). It's interesting to note the white Will Jr had a red afro. I had many characters but my step-uncle challenge my ability in creating characters. It was then I decided I would make 1000 characters.
As a freshmen in High School, I had become interested in Will's father William(long hair like his son..I corrected the character) and his mother Wilma. At the time, I was a fan of theTransformers and the local grocery store had the comics of the tv series. This is how I became a comic collector.
Finding out all that it took to become an cartoon creator/animator, I decide I wanted to become acomic book writer/artist/creator.
I started collecting EVERYTHING X-men when I was a Junior in High School. I collected a few DC books(Justice League) but I loved X-men the most!
STILL daydreaming about my characters in class, I created over 130 characters(My grades were bad). I went into details about William and his future wife.
After high school, I searched for books on creating characters & a listing of pyschic powers. NO BOOKS COULD BE FOUND!!!. I decided if I could not find this book I would be the creator of such a book.
When I purchased the Sims'Bustin Out and the Urbz, I had designed over a guesstimated 3000 characters, I am working with 1000.
I have created a 1000+ differentiating characters generator system(for ANY fiction work), the S.O.L. psycho-mathematic personality system, a listing system for Super/magical powers(437+/- yup, there are less than 500 powers in fiction) and designed a TRUE power-scale chart for super/magical beings. It can list any power and RANK any empowered being including fictional, mythical and BIBLICAL!(been busy).
I was surprise about Rumble Roses XX, I wanted to play Aigle but when I found out about the "Lambda" characters, I had to create my girls. Rumble Roses XX: Wilma Sue, Nova, Brooke & GraceAnn(2 of 3 sisters), Roxanne, Wendy W,Chun Ju, Nuru, Nika and Katsumi.
My characters story spans about 300 years.
The story starts with the half breeds William, Wilma Sue, Victor and Nova as freshmen in high school but more characters will be introduced before the WAR. Their story is about the friends Victor and William. Victor has a destiny to bring peace to the universe or CONQUER it. William's place in the story is to help his friend make a choice.
Since the story is in the future, superpowers are common and vigilantism(superheroics)is illegal.
You would be reading my comic if it wasn't for SUNTRUST BANK. They misrepresented my financial records which destroyed six years of my life(Thanks). If you are 18yrs old or older and you are getting credit please check your credit AFTER your first loan payment!
My characters will go to different planets after the WAR. My Fantasy game characters will be on one of the visited planets.
Family A: Chi(apart of my baby nickname on my FATHER side) Nei(Phantasy Star inspired), Hecliff(a white version of myself for RPGs) Luke(Star Wars inspired/fave)and Simon. They are based on Elves(Champion: Return).
Family G: Rolf(PS inspired), Alis(PS inspired), Wendy and Clifford(an alternate of Hecliff). Family G are COUSINS to Family A.
When it comes to antiquated Sword and Sorcery games creation modes, I use the RPG Family A and G for characters. Non-sword or Futuristic sword games creation modes, I use the other characters.
I created characters for PSO. When the PS2's SIMS2 was released, I created the PSO characters with LAST names for that game. I was SHOCKED when Sega produced PSU. I took the "PSO" SIMS2 characters and created the team(Nei, Chung, Hecliff{my icon}) for PSU. William and Wilma Sue are in PSU(ONLINE) under their ALIEN names. Victor is in PSU(Offline).
Chun-li inspired characters. I created Chun Ju based on the StreetFighter version of Chun-li. Chung of PSU represents Chun-li as a police Officer and Chun"XXXXXX"(half sister of Chun Ju) is Chun-li as a normal girl(first SF ending). Chun Ju is in Rumble Roses XX, SoulCalibur 3 and Wu is renamed Chun Ju in my copy of Jade Empire. Favorite versions of Chun-li: SF Alpha 2, SVC Chaos. Hated versions of Chun-li: Capcom vs SNK2, SF Alpha, and PocketFighter.
The only reasons I like "Sims2 Pets" is because of the pets and the fact MOST of my characters of STORY 1(pre-war) are created in my copy of the game.
If you haven't notice, I NOW play the LASTEST Final Fantasy XI on my X-box 360(It's worst than I THOUGHT).
I change to FFXI because of our "dice playing friends" who are playing the game. My "middle" sibling wanted to play with them(Wish he would have given me a hint before hand). I purchased the game for the 360 while he plays on his NOW HARDDRIVE PS2.
I had to change HARDDRIVES for the FFXI. 20GB isn't enough for online games. It would be best to buy a X-box 360 with a 120GB harddrive if you are going to play online(It's safer). I regret turning in my wireless X-box controller because the ports of the X-box are stronger than for the X-box 360. I was forced to buy a wireless controller.
I had stop playing PSU due too lack of funds(thanks, SUNTRUST)! My limit ended this month. I am unable to pay for both games.
Note: Tidus is named Luke in my copy of FFX.
I play Chi(first RPG character) and Alis(first female RPG character)in FFXI. Actually, the "Chi" I am playing is the human father of my RPG family "A". "Alis" is the human AUNT of Alis of my elven RPG family "G"(Alis was named after her).
I tried to play two Elvaans but couldn't because they are so XXX ugly. I thought it was imposssible to create ugly elves but FFXI have proven my wrong. Looking at them is like swallowing your own vomit(yup, that ugly).
Thank you for your time and patience.
